I wouldnt worry too much what people reply on the other forums. There are always people who want to sound off about some old fashioned way. I get sick of listening to the jobsworths on them. Lets be honest there are still people who pretend that NDB approaches are safer than a GPS approach. I have been coming into Blackpool over the sea at 4pm in the afternoon and been 2 miles left of the centre line on an ndb approach because of all of the effects that can happen. My gps has never been off even a noticeable amount.

This feature (if you choose to add it and I hope you do) could be billed as a descent planner to aid descents from various altitudes. Whats more it could be even better and be a climb planner too with warnings when you get to a certain point or a certain height. I regularly do climbs on my autopilot but forget to stop the climb bang on the number I want. It would be great for a climb planner to warn me as I was approaching my top of climb or a descent I had chosen. Garmin 296 definately has a descent planner sort of. Imagine being able to click on a point on the map some distance from where you are currently at and say I want to be at x height at that point and the descent/climb planner pops up a little window to show you an ils type thing or at least a rate of climb/descent or perhaps the HIT's model to represent what you want to do to achieve your targets height at the position. That would be great.

I have flown in plenty of IMC and would never use something like this in anger for an approach into a field in poor weather without plenty of prior knowledge of where I was going but it would certainly be a nice backup etc.

I. totally agree with the above.

Also some one may wonder, what if someone died in a low visibility approach while using a software I wrote? I could also say what if someone died in low visibility knowing they could have been saved by my software?

Yes by and large people’s opinions are favorable.

I really do feel that its addition would be a real safety bonus and I fully agree people would have to key a disclaimer before using it.

I’ve also been getting excited about teaching possibilities with the HIS and ILS functions assuming they are realistic. My IMC students are forking out something like 400 quid in fees for ILS, NDB and SRA approaches during their course.

Lately in an effort to keep this down I have started using a commercial radio station to practice NDB holds and approaches. Then once the student got to grips with the basics I switch to the real thing before putting them forward for the test. (I fully except people will lambast me for this)

I would therefore consider doing the same with the ILS function.

Finally a HSI function would be great as none of the PPL/IMC fleet has one fitted (the cpl fleet aircraft do) and it would allow me to give my students a tester.

If you need a beta tester give me a shout.

As we now have the e-ILS & the e-DME fully functional albeit not incorporated with the mother ship yet. Can we move this thread from Suggestions & Beta Discussions (that denote wishful thinking) to Sky Demon Mobile Discussion in anticipation of this milestone addition? Please do not get me wrong... I am not pushing!

I know you want this feature, but at the moment I'm afraid it remains firmly in the suggestion category (abeit prototyped).

Tim,

Can I request a regular up-date on the e-ILS/e-DME incorporation into SD?

On one hand, it is understandable that the SD Team would be thinking about the legal aspect of this move. Having said that, I am sure that interested members are keen to be informed, as much as practicable in a forum, about any progress in this direction.

It is logical to think that the module was not developed merely to be stored in a cupboard (or a chip as the case may be).

Sure, I'll post any progress in this thread, as it seems to most logical place.

At the moment we're heads-down working on the next major version of SkyDemon and we still don't know whether this feature will even make it. It was a prototype, and potentially being stored away never to see the light of day is always a possible result of a prototyped feature I'm afraid.

If this feature doesn't make it into the next major version, the chances are we'll go part way there, with the instrument panel and HSI display.

Thank you very much Tim for the update. Can I request a further update perhaps shortly after the next SD release? I am looking very much forward to the instrument panel in the next SD version.

Season's Greetings.

Do I sense a feeling of novelty wearing off or its just the season with little flying (except for Santa of course).

Have a +3Happy New Year-3 everyone and hope it would be full of Goodies (additions) from the SkyDemon Team, all ready to try in the spring.
